Training with Real Betis FC Academy
Real Betis Balompié was founded on September 12th 1907. The Club was granted the honorary title 'Real' in 1914 by King Alfonso XIII.
Real Betis name is one of the few in Spanish football that is made using only words that are Spanish in origin, and the oldest of them all. The term ‘Balompié’ is literally football, although most teams in the country choose the term ‘fútbol’ as a copy from English.
Their biggest honours are a League championship, won in 1934/35 and two Copa del Rey victories, in 1977 and 2005.
They were the first Andalusian team to play in the Spanish first division, going on to be the first to play in the Champions League in its current format.
In addition, Betis have twice been runners up in the Copa del Rey, and once in the Spanish Super Cup.
Betis' home stadium is the Benito Villamarín Stadium, which is owned by the club, while all the Academy teams play at Luis del Sol Training Centre, located just 200 metres from the main stadium.
The ground can seat up to 60,271 fans. The Stadium is located in the Heliópolis neighbourhood, near Paseo de la Palmera, one of the main arteries of the city of Seville. The number of members has experienced a significant increase in recent years, and currently there are more than 50,000.
Regarding fan clubs, the Green and Whites are ranked fourth in Spain, with more than 450. However, the reach extends beyond the borders and even outside of Europe, with some clubs found in places as far as the USA, Australia and Zanzibar. It shows the universal appeal and character the Club has had since it was created.
The club benefits from a prolific Academy which has produced first-team players throughout its history. The Academy currently has 17 teams.
Alongside this, in recent years Real Betis Balompié has entered into new disciplines to take the name of the club further and produce sporting enjoyment that has never been seen before in Seville.
There is a women's team, Real Betis Féminas, who play in the top Spanish Division, and there is also a basketball team - Coosur Real Betis. The futsal side, Real Betis Futsal, plays in the second tier.
